OnePlus 9 Pro vs. iPhone 12 Pro: Price

Both the OnePlus 9 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro are high-end smartphones with hefty price tags. In the case of OnePlus, the 9 Pro is the company's most expensive phone to date, starting at $969 for the 8GB/128GB edition. You can raise the RAM to 12GB and double the capacity for an additional $100.

The iPhone 12 Pro, on the other hand, starts at $999 for the 128GB edition right out of the box. For an additional $100, you can get 256GB of data, or for $1,299, you can get 512GB. If you're thinking of getting an iPhone, make sure to check out our list of the best iPhone deals first.

The $30 difference between the OnePlus 9 Pro and iPhone 12 may not seem like much, but it does mean the OnePlus phone can be had for less. Plus, OnePlus includes the 65W charger in the 9 Pro’s box, so you don’t need to fork over extra cash to charge your phone at full speed. The same cannot be said for the iPhone 12 Pro, which ships without a charger.

OnePlus 9 Pro vs. iPhone 12 Pro: Design

Both the OnePlus 9 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro are stunning smartphones that stand out in their own right, with stunning color choices and strong build quality. Both have metal frames and glass backs, as well as clicky power and volume buttons and excellent vibration motors for pleasing haptic feedback. They both have a mute button, but the OnePlus has three options: Ring, Vibrate, and Silent. The iPhone is a portable smartphone with a large screen. The iPhone is limited to Silent Mode on or off.

Aside from those parallels, the appearance of both phones is vastly different. With a 6.7-inch touchscreen, the OnePlus 9 Pro dwarfs the iPhone 12 Pro. The 6.1-inch iPhone is more portable and one-handed friendly. In this regard, neither phone is superior — they both have a high-end feel — and your size preference will decide which one is better for you.

The selfie camera on the front of the OnePlus 9 Pro is an easy hole punch. The front camera and Face ID technology on the iPhone is housed in the classic notch.

In terms of biometrics, the OnePlus 9 Pro has an optical fingerprint sensor embedded in the display, while the iPhone 12 Pro relies solely on facial recognition. Both techniques are effective in the absence of face masks. However, I believe the OnePlus unlocks faster because the iPhone needs you to swipe up after it recognizes your face to unlock.

Finally, both phones are dust and water-resistant. The OnePlus 9 Pro is IP68-certified, which means it can withstand being submerged for 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5 meters. The iPhone 12 Pro goes a step further and can be submerged for 30 minutes at a depth of 6 meters.

Both phones have the outstanding build quality, but the iPhone 12 Pro's improved water resistance gives it a slight advantage.

Winner: iPhone 12 Pro

OnePlus 9 Pro vs. iPhone 12 Pro: Display

A good display is essential for a good smartphone experience, and both the OnePlus 9 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro deliver in this regard. OLED panels are used on all of the phones, resulting in bright colours and true blacks. However, putting the phones side by side and checking their screens in a lab yields a winner.

The OnePlus 9 Pro has a spectacular 6.7-inch AMOLED monitor with Bright and Natural colour modes. The 9 Pro covered 208.1 per cent of the sRGB spectrum in Vivid and 147.4 per cent of the more difficult DCI-P3 spectrum. The phone dims all in Natural, giving you 119.9% of the sRGB and 84.9 per cent of the DCI-P3 colour gamuts. Finally, the OnePlus 9 Pro has a variable 120 Hz refresh rate, which allows the phone to go as low as 1 Hz when required.

The iPhone 12 Pro, on the other hand, has a single colour profile that covers 115.6 per cent of the sRGB spectrum and 81.9 per cent of the DCI-P3 gamut. Since the refresh rate is set to 60 Hz, there is no ultra-smooth scrolling as there is on the OnePlus 9 Pro. The iPhone's screen is slightly brighter than the OnePlus 9 Pro's, at 740 nits vs 722 nits.

The OnePlus 9 Pro obviously wins this category, as shown by research. The variable 120 Hz refresh rate is the cherry on top.

Winner: OnePlus 9 Pro

OnePlus 9 Pro vs. iPhone 12 Pro: Performance

When it comes to mobile results, Apple reigns supreme. The A14 Bionic chipset keeps its lead over the Snapdragon 888 rivals. The new Bionic SoC is faster and more powerful, providing a fantastic gaming and non-gaming experience.

That's not to suggest the OnePlus 9 Pro isn't capable. The OnePlus 9 Pro is one of the most powerful Android phones we've ever reviewed, thanks to its Snapdragon chipset and plenty of RAM. It's perfect for games like Genshin Effect, Asphalt 9, and Call of Duty: Mobile in real life, and it can handle everything you throw at it. The 9 Pro is also lightning-fast in-app load times when paired with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM.

The OnePlus 9 Pro scored 3,685 on the multicore test in Geekbench 5, while the iPhone 12 Pro earned 4,078. That's a big difference. The OnePlus 9 Pro, on the other hand, managed 34.5 frames per second in 3DMark's demanding Wild Life Unlimited test, while the iPhone 12 Pro scored a whopping 51 FPS.

Both phones are extremely effective when compared side by side. Intensive games like Genshin Impact may appear a little smoother on the iPhone, but it's not something that many people would note. However, we must name a winner in this category, and in research, the iPhone outperforms the OnePlus 9 Pro.

Winner: iPhone 12 Pro

OnePlus 9 Pro vs. iPhone 12 Pro: Battery life and charging

A 4,500 mAh battery is split into two 2,250 mAh cells in the OnePlus 9 Pro. This enables insanely fast 65W charging. The iPhone 12 Pro's battery capacity is 2,815 mAh, resulting in slightly shorter battery life.

The OnePlus 9 Pro performed admirably in a test in which phones were left to repeatedly reload webpages over a cellular link. We put it to the test with 5G and the 120Hz mode switched on, and it lasted an average of 10 hours and 40 minutes. When you compare that to the iPhone 12 Pro's meagre 9 hours and 6 minutes on a charge, it's obvious which phone will last longer.

With a total of 65W wired and 50W wireless charging, the OnePlus 9 Pro takes the lead. The iPhone's wired maximum of 20W is smashed. The OnePlus 9 Pro's large battery can be completely charged in just 30 minutes. With one of Apple's MagSafe chargers, the iPhone 12 Pro can't even come close to that, reaching 31 per cent after half an hour.

Winner: OnePlus 9 Pro
